On Thursday 7 March, members of the House of Lords will debate the contribution of higher education to national growth, productivity and levelling-up.

Lord Blunkett (Labour), former education and employment secretary, will put forward the debate.

This is a general debate. During debates, members put their experience to good use to discuss current issues and draw the government's attention to concerns.

Members speaking in the debate include:

  • Baroness Garden of Frognal (Liberal Democrat), vice-chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Adult Education
  • Lord Norton of Louth (Conservative), former head of politics and international studies at the University of Hull
  • Lord Willetts (Conservative), chancellor of the University of Leicester and former education minister
  • Baroness Wolf of Dulwich (Crossbench), professor at King's College London.

Baroness Barran (Conservative), Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Education, will respond on behalf of the government.
