A GROUP of university students have lost their battle to tear down statues of Lord Nelson and Sir Francis Drake at a town hall.
Residents near Deptford Town Hall, southeast London, have rejoiced after a campaign by students at Goldsmiths, University of London, failed this week. Carvings of Lord Nelson and Sir Drake are etched into the town hall, which is owned by the research university, but nearly 60 per cent of residents in the area said they didn't want them removed.
