Leading academics and researchers have warned vital scholarship is being put at risk by the continuation of Covid-19 restrictions that are hampering access to Scotland’s national archives.

National Records of Scotland (NRS) hosts a vast collection of documents in Edinburgh, including the 700-year-old Declaration of Arbroath, which asserts the country’s independence. However, its historical search rooms have yet to return to normal, despite nearly all restrictions being lifted elsewhere.
