A lower proportion of white school-leavers are now going to highly selective universities than any other ethnic group.
They have been overtaken by young black people for the first time, according to Department for Education figures on the proportion of pupils attending so-called high-tariff institutions that include Russell Group universities and others that request high entry grades.
