A Saudi academic studying for a PhD in dentistry at Leeds University has been jailed for 34 years in her home country after she was reported to a mobile phone “snitching” app for tweeting about human rights.

Salma al-Shehab, 34, who is married with two sons aged six and four, is also a lecturer in her home country and has never been involved with human rights groups.
