Increasing numbers of university students are choosing to live at home because soaring costs have made it too expensive for them to move out.
Students worried about making ends meet during the cost of living crisis are opting to stay local, with many taking up places in universities close to their family home so they can save money on accommodation, food and other bills. Some colleges have also observed an uptick in the number of young people intending to take up part-time jobs to supplement loans.
Hundreds of thousands of students received their A and AS-level results on Thursday, and for many of those going on to university, geography will be the primary factor driving their final decision.
Gill Banks, deputy principal at the City of Liverpool College, said the cost of living crisis had influenced many of her students when deciding where to go to university.
