A senior colleague of a female Glasgow University lecturer who claims to have been denied a promotion because of sex discrimination said that elements of the process were “meaningless” and should be scrapped.
Professor Sara Carter, vice-principal of social sciences, admitted that some requirements to become a professor were “very old-fashioned”. She gave her view while being cross-examined by Jeanette Findlay, an economist who says she was the victim of sex discrimination after her application for a professorship was rejected in 2020.
