Thousands of A-level students were reportedly given incorrect grades leaving them facing the possibility of losing their university place.
Students sitting exams under the AQA exam board were said to be mistakenly marked down as absent for a test they had in fact attended, it is reported.
Other students found out coursework marked by their teacher had been graded as "not classified" after being told it had passed.
After a long-awaited results day, students hit by the glitch appealed to the AQA exam board after they were left in limbo about where they could no attend university amid a looming deadline to secure a place - even after an appeal.
The mistake came to light when students voiced their confusion at being given U in certain subjects - prompting schools to contact the exam board where they were told the students in question had been absent.
