The UK university sector body on Thursday demanded action to support institutions that were being “squeezed and squeezed hard” by inflation, which has cut the value of tuition fees by nearly one-third in real terms.

Steve West, head of Universities UK, speaking at the body’s annual conference, called on the government to deliver a new model of higher education funding, as institutions’ budgets are stretched by the cost of living crisis.
