Figures published by the Student Loans Company showed that almost 40,000 students in England, Wales and Northern Ireland permanently withdrew from their university courses by the end of August this year.
The number of undergraduates dropping out of university jumped almost a quarter this year as the cost of living crisis continues to weigh on students.
