Universities have demanded a greater share of Scottish public funding after claiming their allocation has not kept pace with schools and colleges.
Universities Scotland and Colleges Scotland issued a joint statement that stated the nation’s economic prosperity was at risk without significant investment. Scotland’s higher education institutions complain their funding has fallen 10 per cent since 2015. Funding for colleges and primary schools has increased 10 per cent and money for high schools by 4 per cent.
Scottish universities are also under threat from a proposed limit on foreign students in order to curb net migration to the UK. Fees from international students overtook government funding as the main source of income for universities this year.
