A female judge who blazed a trail in the male-dominated world of law has been accused of being an “absentee rector” who has neglected her duties since she was elected by students at the University of Glasgow.
In April 2021, Lady Rae, 71, became only the second woman in 570 years to hold the position and said she would be an “active impartial rector”.
However, students claimed she had failed to attend meetings and put forward their concerns about accommodation shortages and the cost of living.
First-year students have been sent to live eight miles away in Paisley because of a severe shortage of housing on campus, while others have been advised against registering at the university unless they have a place to stay.
