The Russell Group of universities wants a parliamentary inquiry into whether the official student watchdog is fulfilling its remit.
The Office for Students (OfS) was set up five years ago to regulate the higher education sector, working in the interests of existing and potential students.
The Russell Group, which represents 24 research-intensive universities and other bodies in the sector, have asked the chairman of the Commons education select committee for the inquiry. They want MPs to explore how the OfS carries out its regulatory duties, how it has supported students and how it performs in relation to standards set out in the regulators’ code.
