A ROMANY Gypsy mum says her children have had to leave three schools because of racist abuse and that more needs to be done to tackle the problem.
Charmaine Abdul-Karim says it seems it is 'still acceptable' to be racist towards people from her background after suffering instances of discrimination her entire life. These include Charmaine being forced to resign from several jobs as a result of racist treatment, and her two children having to change schools.
The 42-year-old shared her community's struggles and their long proud history in Britain. She also discussed how discrimination has affected almost all facets of her and her families lives.
"It happens in all walks of life," Charmaine said. "My birth experience was particularly traumatic. One of the biggest things that can happen in a woman's life is to give birth.
