Parents planning a meeting to discuss transgender ideology in Scottish schools have been told they must pay a £600 security bill after opponents attempted to close down their event.
Members of the group accused Edinburgh Council of failing to protect their right to freedom of speech after they received a demand to pay the costs of security guards, following the cancellation of an earlier meeting because of fears it would be disrupted.
The event, organised by Concerned Adults Talking Openly About Gender Identity Ideology, had been planned to take place at Portobello Library next week.
It has been targeted by trans rights activists who have urged supporters to flood the council-run library with complaints in a bid to have it shut down and they are planning to picket the meeting.
