Headteachers are undermining the chances of protecting children from recruitment by gangs by failing to alert police about pupils who are being excluded, a watchdog has warned .
In a report on Wednesday on tackling serious youth violence, HM Inspectorate of Constabulary, Fire and Rescue Services said that collaboration between schools and police can play a valuable role in tackling the problem.
But it warns that the potential benefits for vulnerable pupils are sometimes being lost because of inadequate communication between schools and police.
“For example, some headteachers don’t consult with police about pupils at risk of exclusion,” today’s report by the watchdog states.
