In advance of the spring budget announcement tomorrow, CfEY is delighted to be a co-signatory of a letter calling for the government to invest in solutions for reducing child poverty.

The new Education Anti-Poverty Coalition, which is made up of school governors, head teachers, PTAs and other groups working in education, are calling for child benefit to be raised and for free school meal provision to be expanded.

In the open letter, the group states: “We are writing to raise our deep concern about the impact child poverty and hardship are having on the children we work with and our school system.”

The coalition has said that ensuring families have enough to live on would “significantly lighten the load for schools” and could inevitably improve children’s experiences of school life.
