A masculinity activist has said schools should share the blame for the popularity of Andrew Tate, the influencer with a reputation for misogyny.
The comments by Mark Brooks, a co-founder of the Men and Boys Coalition, an umbrella group of academics and charities, coincided with a survey that found almost a third of young men thought society did not care about them.
Brooks said schools were not addressing boys’ problems adequately and bringing in outside consultants to tackle the toxic masculinity peddled by Tate suggested to boys that they needed to be fixed.
Tate’s videos went viral online last summer. TikTok removed his account because of “a hateful ideology” but his videos have been viewed more than 431 million times.
