An Ofsted inspector has quit amid a backlash against the watchdog following the suicide of a headteacher.
Andy Webster, leader of Park View School in Tottenham, north London, accused 'toxic' and 'inexperienced' inspection teams of placing 'awful pressure' on schools.
Taking aim at what he called the watchdog's 'political agenda', in a series of tweets he added that the death of Ruth Perry, had brought 'into sharp focus' how Ofsted has 'taken a turn for the worse'. Ms Perry killed herself after a negative inspection at Caversham Primary School in Reading.
The schools watchdog has faced fierce backlash with calls for Ofsted inspections to be paused out of respect for Ms Perry
But the call has been rebuffed by Ofsted's chief Amanda Spielman, who claimed that stopping inspections would not be in the best interests of schoolchildren.
