Bosses at Britain’s largest teachers’ union have been accused of wrecking the education of millions of children over a pay dispute. The National Education Union has warned strikes could last until Christmas and beyond after members voted to turn down the Government’s pay offer.
Pupils, already playing catch-up following a wave of winter teacher strikes, are facing the prospect of five more school shutdowns before the end of the summer term.
But, rather than being solely a dispute over pay, there are now worrying claims that teachers have been hijacked by a “political campaign to shift the country to the hard-Left”.
Its firebrand leaders have “extreme” and “pro-Putin” political views, it has been claimed.
And their ideological masterplan will leave the country’s children as “collateral damage”, it was suggested.
The Daily Express can today reveal the extent to which the National Education Union, which has more than 460,000 members, is closely affiliated with the Left-wing Stop The War Coalition (STW).
