The NASUWT-The Teachers’ Union, along with other education unions, has formally rejected a pay offer of 2% for 2022/23 for teachers in Scotland following an SNCT (Scottish Negotiating Committee for Teachers) meeting yesterday.
The NASUWT has deemed the offer unacceptable as it represents a substantial real-terms pay cut at a time when the country is facing the biggest cost of living crisis for 40 years. The offer also completely fails to make any headway in tackling the erosion of teachers’ pay over the last 12 years.
Dr Patrick Roach, NASUWT General Secretary, said:
“Teachers are united in their message to the Scottish Government and COSLA that this pay offer is nowhere near substantial enough at a time when inflation is now running at 9%.
