Humza Yousaf’s old school has criticised the SNP’s tax policy and urged him to intervene after it became embroiled in a “fire and rehire” row.
The first minister attended Hutchesons’ Grammar, an independent school in Glasgow, as did Anas Sarwar, the leader of Scottish Labour.
Staff have voted to take industrial action amid claims that they are being forced to agree to new contracts or face dismissal. Teaching unions have urged Yousaf to get involved.
However, the school insisted it was keen to establish a dialogue with him on a different issue. “The school would welcome the opportunity to meet with the first minister to see how he can support the independent school sector, which is facing increasing economic pressures,” a spokeswoman said.
