School leaders’ union ASCL will ballot its members for strike action over pay for the first time in its history.
The union told members this morning that its executive “has unanimously decided to proceed to a formal industrial action ballot for strike action in England over the school funding crisis, the erosion of teacher and leader pay and conditions, and consequent staff shortages which are undermining the education system”.
It comes after 87 per cent of voting members rejected the government’s pay deal, on a turnout of 56 per cent.
