A school in Birmingham has been forced to close its doors to pupils today after a travelling community moved onto the school field.
Around 30 caravans are said to have parked up on the grass close to Ninestiles Academy, which has a capacity of up to 1,500 students, last night.
Pupils were all working from home today after a staff meeting to assess safety concerns, as the Academy Trust behind it said the site has been the target of 'vandalism'.
The site, which is also next to a local leisure centre, Fox Hollies, had around 15 caravans remaining on Friday morning.
A statement from Birmingham Liberal Democrats said two of its councillors have reported the incident to the local council.
A spokesperson said: 'Roger Harmer and Penny Wagg have reported the appearance of travellers to a school in Acocks Green to the council's Enforcement team who will deal with this as a priority.
