Children perform better at maths when music is a key part of their lessons, an analysis of decades of research on the topic has revealed.
The study combed through 55 studies from around the world, involving almost 78,000 participants ranging from children at nursery to university students.
The research, led by Dr Ayca Akin, of Antalya Belek University in Turkey, concluded that using music in maths lessons increased motivation and eased anxiety about the subject.
Ways of integrating music into maths lessons range from clapping along to pieces with different rhythms when learning numbers and fractions to using maths to design musical instruments.
