Pupils at an inner city secondary school have voted to ban mobile phones in a bid to cut down on their screen time and improve social skills.
The Glasgow Gaelic School, in the city’s west end, has implemented a policy on not allowing phones to be used during and between classes.
Previously students were allowed to look at electronic devices during breaks and lunchtime. However, members of the school’s pupil parliament voted in favour of having less screen time.
Gillian Campbell-Thow, the head teacher, claimed the move was already proving to be popular.
“More people are talking to each other and reading,” she said. “It has enabled the school to build up relationships with pupils and parents.”
