A new head teacher is being sought for a school on a remote Scottish island with just four pupils.
The “once in a lifetime opportunity” is at Foula Primary School, 16 miles to the west of the Shetland mainland. It comes with a £61,000 salary — or £15,000 per child — with the advert promoting the island’s “slower pace of life”.
Foula has a permanent population of just 28 people and spans an area of about five square miles. To travel there you must either take the ferry from Walls in Shetland’s west mainland, which takes about two hours, or a flight from Tingwall, which is 15 minutes.
