The former boss of an academy trust launched by the government to take on schools nobody else wanted to run has been charged with historic child sex offences, it was revealed today.
Gareth Mason is alleged to have carried out an indecent assault and attempted to commit an act of gross indecency on a young girl.
The 52-year-old, of Leeds, will appear in the city's magistrates' court later this month.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesman told MailOnline: 'Gareth Mason has been charged with sexual offences which are alleged to have occurred in Wakefield between 2001 and 2002.
'The offences are for indecent assault and attempting to commit an act of gross indecency and relate to a single female who was under the age of 16 at the time'.
