Parents of seven-year-olds could have to pay twice as much to educate them privately as it will have cost those whose children have just taken A-levels, analysis suggests.
The research by Weatherbys Private Bank says inflation, plus VAT on independent school fees that would be introduced if Labour won the next election, could have a dramatic impact on the amount charged.
The parents of a pupil who sat A-levels this year and attended an average-costing boarding school from the age of seven will have paid nearly £378,000 in fees over their child’s school life.
That could rise to more than £825,000 for a child starting at a private school today, the bank says.
