Pupils at one of Scotland’s most prestigious private schools suffered such severe and frequent abuse that a number of them took their own lives, an inquiry has been told.
Twenty former teachers and staff members at Edinburgh Academy have been accused of historical physical and sexual abuse of young pupils.
A number of survivors have spoken out about their classmates who were left so damaged and traumatised they felt unable to carry on.
Sam, whose named has been changed by the inquiry to preserve his anonymity, attended the school between 1968 and 1980. He told the Scottish child abuse inquiry that his own circumstances had been “touch and go”, adding: “The support of friends, family and my life partner mean that I am still here.
