Ministers are looking to order nearly 1,000 prefabricated buildings to teach children in after schools were hit by the crumbling concrete crisis.
The Times understands that the Department for Education has issued two contract notices, worth tens of millions, for ready-made teaching blocks to replace those classrooms that have been put out of action by Raac.
The contracts anticipate that the temporary buildings, which can each accommodate a class of 30 children, could be needed up until 2027, underlining the scale of the challenge facing the government as it attempts to rectify the defects in the school estate.
