The Mayor of London has announced a new £3.4m investment for London’s Violence Reduction Unit (VRU) to help with the prevention of violence during after-school hours.
Research from the VRU finds that between 3pm and 10 pm on weekdays young people are particularly vulnerable to violence and exploitation involving criminal gangs.
Sadiq Khan’s latest round of funding for the VRU aims to reduce this risk by funding after-school opportunities through City Hall’s Stronger Futures Programme.
The investment will support 23 grassroots community groups to provide activities for 17,000 children across the capital.
