The biggest exam board is introducing digital GCSE exams for subjects taught in England from next year. Exams for Italian and Polish GCSE courses that teenagers start in September will be taken using laptops, before a wider rollout. AQA said that by 2030 it expects to see pupils sitting exams for parts of a major subject, such as English or maths, using devices. The listening and reading assessments of the two language GCSEs will be taken digitally for pupils in the summer of 2026, subject to approval by Ofqual, the exam regulator.
