Scotland’s clinical director described parents as “extremists” for wanting more restrictions to be put in place in schools, the Covid inquiry has heard.
Professor Jason Leitch, who led the country’s fight against Covid, reportedly made the comments before taking part in a webinar organised by the National Parent Forum in September 2021.
Helen Goss, a campaigner for children with long Covid, told the Scottish Covid inquiry she had joined the Q&A early and overheard Leitch making the comments.
Leitch “was not aware that his camera and mic were on”, Goss said, as he spoke to the webinar host.
She said: “He referred to parents, advocates and campaigners who were campaigning for mitigations and public health measures as ‘extremists’.
