New research suggests combining retrieval practice with drawing strategies would have been a game-changer in my classroom! Encouraging students to sketch or map out concepts from memory not only enhances understanding but also strengthens long-term retention – an invaluable strategy today’s teachers!
In a new, open-access paper, the Effect of retrieval practice and drawing on high school students’ conceptual understanding (Wang et al., 2023) sheds some light on the effect of using two different drawing methods with retrieval practice to promote students’ understanding.
