The sister of a head teacher who took her own life after her school was downgraded by Ofsted has said inspections can be too easily swayed by disgruntled parents.
Ruth Perry died in January 2023 and her family has spent the past year fighting for change to the inspection system. An inquest found that the “rude and intimidating” inspection that led to Caversham primary school in Reading being downgraded to inadequate had contributed to her death.
Ofsted is poised to respond in full to the coroner’s criticisms at the end of this week and will restart inspections on January 22, after suspending them to give all lead inspectors mental health training.
