When a student asks, ‘Why do I need to know this?’, how should a teacher answer this question?
‘’We’re preparing students for jobs that don’t yet exist … using technologies that haven’t been invented … in order to solve problems we don’t even know are problems yet.” Richard Riley
Technology is rapidly evolving!
As a science teacher, I found myself referencing this quotation (even though it’s decades old now) a lot! None of us really know what jobs there are going to be in 10-20 years time!
Instead, why not know as much as you can about anything and everything?
It’s clear that the technology industry continues to be rapidly evolving. There are regular headlines about artificial intelligence (AI), which can be both inspiring and a little daunting! Talking to our students about these topics, about how they could affect their lives and future jobs, is becoming increasingly important.
