A Jewish school has failed to address gender-based bullying since pupil Mia Janin killed herself, a coroner has warned.

“Creative and kind” Mia took her own life following “hostile” bullying from boys at the London school in 2021.

Coroner Tony Murphy condemned the Jewish Free School [JFS] for a lack of systemic changes after the 14-year-old’s suicide.

Four months after the schoolgirl died, her mother Marisa died from leukaemia.

Mr Murphy, coroner for north London, has now warned that more schoolgirls at JFS are at risk of suicide as gender-based bullying has continued.

While JFS claimed it has implemented a “complete overhaul” following Mia’s death, Mr Murphy found that the initiatives have not done enough to make female pupils feel safe.

Mr Murphy made the findings in a prevent future deaths report written to JFS, ordering the institution to take a new course of action.

Mia, daughter of Mariano and Marisa Janin, was found dead at their home in Barnet, north London, on March 12, 2021, having asked them to move school the evening before.
