Vulnerable pupils, including those with mental health problems, are at an increased risk of experiencing "an unexplained transfer" from their school, research has found.
Almost one in five pupils finishing year 11 in 2019 with an identified social, emotional, or mental health need have experienced at least one "unexplained school transfer".
This compares with one in 17 among all pupils in this cohort.
Meanwhile, almost one in 10 pupils from Black ethnic groups have experienced at least one unexplained school move.
The proportion is also worse than the average among care experienced pupils. One in 10 of this group have experienced an unexplained transfer.
