Nicola Sturgeon made a tactical error in staking her reputation on a doomed attempt to close the attainment gap between poorer and more affluent pupils in Scotland’s schools, union leaders have said.
The first minister reaffirmed her commitment this month to close the poverty related division by 2026.
Senior officials from the Educational Institute of Scotland (EIS) said her mission will be foiled by a combination of failures to adequately cut class sizes and UK government austerity policies.
