With children set to wilt in the heat, proposed school closures today are just the beginning of the chaos for frazzled parents. This week millions will brace themselves as schools break up for six weeks of summer. Many will be left wondering how they will juggle work and childcare for a month and a half, while keeping their bosses happy.

For parents the six-week holiday can be a childcare nightmare: the better-off fork out for expensive summer camps, others juggle time off with partners and ask grandparents to step in. To put the boot in, holiday providers will hike up prices, leaving the summer getaway even further out of reach
for many.
