Unions have begun strike preparations after reacting furiously to “risible” below-inflation pay awards for millions of public-sector workers yesterday.
Ministers yesterday set out what they insisted was a “fair and sustainable settlement” that largely accepted recommendations from independent pay review bodies, with more than two million staff getting rises averaging between 4 and 5 per cent.
