Deprived pupils are being given preferential access to university over straight A students despite getting more than half the questions wrong in their exams.
The pass mark in this year’s Highers was lowered dramatically to less than 40 per cent in some courses, while 50 per cent was enough to secure Bs and a key to university for pupils living in areas deemed “deprived”.
