Parents are growing increasingly anxious ahead of A-level results day with competition for university places set to be fierce this year.
Alice Sloan, from Belfast, has “set her heart” on going to Edinburgh to study a four-year integrated master’s degree in accountancy and finance.
The university has given her a conditional offer of three As, but with exam boards cracking down on grade inflation, her mother is keen to manage expectations.
It comes after two years of teachers awarding grades as major exams were cancelled during the Covid pandemic. This resulted in a significant rise in the proportion of pupils passing and scoring higher grades.
