Hundreds of thousands of young people all over the country nervously collected their A-level results today.
But pupils at Brampton Manor Academy in East Ham, London, will have felt some extra pressure to live up to the impressive reputation the school has earned itself in recent years.
The state school, where more than half of pupils qualify for free school meals, sent 51 pupils to Oxbridge in 2020 and 55 in 2021 – more than Eton.
Somehow this year’s sixth formers have done even better, with a staggering 85 of them securing places at Oxford and Cambridge.
