Three prominent governors at a leading independent school have resigned over its handling of a sexual misconduct allegation made by a former pupil.

Kathryn Stone, the parliamentary standards commissioner, Sue Fish, a former police chief, and Tim Hannam, QC, a criminal law barrister, quit after Repton School declined to dismiss the teacher at the centre of the claim.
