The cost of living crisis is harming children’s education, teachers’ leaders have said, as one school reported having to buy underwear for a pupil.
A survey in Scotland by the NASUWT union found 65 per cent of teachers said more pupils were coming to school hungry, while 67 per cent said they or a colleague had given students food or clothing. One teacher said their school bought underwear for a child while another reported: “I am always providing stationery, snacks, books, water, to my pupils.”
