Many teachers in Wales are currently being balloted for strike action after the Welsh Government offered them a 5% pay award. With inflation running in the double digits this would constitute a real-terms pay cut. Education minister Jeremy Miles blamed Westminster for the inability to give a higher pay rise. “As additional funding has not been made available by the UK Government we are not in a position to further address these issues over and above what has previously been considered,” he said.

Several unions are in the process of balloting members about possible industrial action. But when would a teachers strike actually take place if it went ahead?
