Members of NASUWT-The Teachers’ Union at Bannerman High School in Glasgow are today beginning 12 days of strike action in response to failures by the employer to address teachers’ concerns over violent and abusive pupil behaviour.

The action follows Glasgow City Council’s failure to implement initial measures agreed with the union that would ensure teaching staff’s safety, that pupils' needs are met appropriately and to restore order at the school.

The Union had issued instructions to members to refuse to stay in a classroom with a pupil who is threatening their safety. However, Glasgow City Council has been sending home NASUWT members without pay for taking action to prioritise their personal safety.
