Oxford University’s outgoing vice-chancellor has admitted that she paid to send her children to private school to get the ‘best’ possible education.
The revelation from state-educated Professor Dame Louise Richardson, 64, comes amid the ongoing row about taxing fees.
State-school pupils now make up two-thirds of Oxford’s undergraduate admissions. When asked by the Financial Times if this meant wealthy parents should choose state schools, Professor Richardson said: ‘The vast majority of people don’t have that choice.
‘My advice is just to get the best education they can for their children and to encourage their passion for their subject. And if they get into Oxford or Cambridge, wonderful, but there are many other great universities.’
